The Great American Bullfrog
Enlarged to twice its natural size, this detailed vinyl plastic replica of a
sexually mature female bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana, displays both internal and
external structures for easy observation. Anatomical detail includes internal
nares, maxillary and vomerine teeth, eustachian tube, egg-filled ovary, and the
nictitating membrane of the eye. Separates into four parts, and has a
dissectible, highly detailed three-chambered heart. Fully dissected, the ventral
aspect exposes all the viscera, the buccal cavity, and the musculature of the
right hind leg. Dorsally, multilevel dissections expose the brain and nervous
system, eye and optic nerve, ear, skin, external eye and the musculature of the
right hind leg. A deeper dissection exposes all the bones of the skull and
skeleton. Ten organ systems are present. The non-breakable bullfrog is removable
for examination and stands on a rectangular hardwood base. Anatomical features
are hand-numbered on the model, and are identified in the instructor's answer
key. 15 x 21 x 4".
