Beta emissions of 32P, 35S, 3H and 14C can be effectively blocked by 10mm thick optical acrylic. All Jencons-PLS Beta shielding is manufactured from heavy gauge 10mm thick acrylic. Where shielding is required for protection against Gamma emissions of [125I] Iodine and other Gamma emitters of lesser energy, a 12mm thick lead acrylic is required. This is the heavy gauge lead acrylic Jencons-PLS uses for its Gamma shielding products. Important Safety Notice Lead acrylic is meant for [125I] and related Gamma blockage only. When Beta emitting particles such as [32P] or [35S] are exposed to heavy metals such as lead, dangerous Bremstrahlung X-rays are produced.
