Ultra pure it is a silvery white brittle metalloid element. Stable in
air and water, unaffected by acids, except nitric, and alkalis. Used in
semiconductors, alloys, and special glasses for infrared devices. Diagnostic tests:
There are no simple chemical tests for germanium. Atomic Absorption
Spectroscopy is used for quantitative analysis and Energy Depressive Analysis of X-rays
(EDAX) is used for qualitative analysis.
